Job Title: CHS Mathematics Teacher                                           

Reports to:   Building Principal                 

Bargaining Group:   Clarkston Education Association (CEA)

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Wages: Placement on the Certificated Salary Schedule ($59,877-$108,567 currently)

                                        

Terms of Employment:  1.0 FTE, 7.5 Hours per Day - Per Bargaining Agreement; Placement on Clarkston School District Certificated Salary Schedule based on education and experience

 

         

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:  

• Must possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mathematics
• Must be eligible for or possess a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Mathematics endorsement
• Advanced training and coursework in mathematics. Training in the use of appropriate technology in the teaching of math
• Successful Washington State Patrol check and FBI Fingerprint Clearance Report and Disclosure Statement in accordance with state law

• Demonstrated ability to successfully work with and teach students and staff
• Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, IEPs, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, governmental regulations and professional journals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Evidence of strong content area instructional capabilities at the high school level
• Evidence of providing for student individual learning styles
• Evidence of training and experience utilizing computer technology for word processing, grading, recording attendance, communicating by e-mail, and implementing these computer programs into daily use in the classroom
• Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles basic levels to extensions beyond basics
• Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues
• Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in working with parents, students, staff, and community
• Knowledge of child development and especially characteristics of high school students.
• Knowledge of prescribed curriculum
• Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Skills in using a variety of instructional strategies to engage student learning through innovative, relevant learning experiences
• Knowledge and ability to implement Washington State Mathematics K-12 Learning Standards
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and District and legal requirements 

Experience:  

• Experience teaching and assisting students in computer applications of mathematics
• Knowledge and ability to implement Washington State Mathematics K-12 Learning Standards
• Experience in dealing with children 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:

 

Essential Duties: 

• Teaches content and skills in mathematics courses, utilizing curriculum designated by Clarkston School District
• Provide high-quality math lesson development and delivery
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of Clarkston School District
• Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students
• Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepare grade reports, keep appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary
• Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas
• Evaluate each student’s progress in meeting the course standards for Mathematic skills
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and attitude problems
• Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
• Administer testing in accordance with division testing practices
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities 

Other Duties: 

• Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities
• Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including PTA, student clubs, and after-school activities
• Creates an effective learning environment through student recruitment, dynamic learning opportunities, and student relationships
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: May include instructional assistants, volunteers, tutors

           

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, printer, overhead projector or Prowise board, document camera, copier, fax

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Physical:

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead
