AVID Tutor/Para Educator

 

This position is a non-continuing position and will end at the end of the current school year.

 

Employees are able to re-apply in subsequent years should the position be resumed.

 

This position is not to exceed more than 19 hours per week.

 

Primary Purpose:

 

Guide students toward academic and personal excellence that will reach far beyond their high school years.  Active participant in the learning, growth, and personal development of students within the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

Must be enrolled in a college or university or have already completed a 2 or 4 year degree from an accredited institution or meet Para Educator Highly qualified status.

Balanced academic background, some liberal arts major, others science or mathematics major

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to meet regularly to discuss student progress and to confer with the teacher about future tutorial plans

Excellent role model of motivated, organized, successful college student

Ability to be supportive and understanding with secondary students

Ability to be advocate of students

 

Experience:

Must be eligible for employment in the United States
