Health Services Assistant Substitute
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- HS diploma or equivalent
- Must pass Criminal Justice background/finger print check
- Current American Heart Association CPR/ First Aid certification card required within six weeks of hire date
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Experience in pediatrics, medical/ surgical preferred
- Ability to work with children across all income and demographic levels
- Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults
- Office experience preferred
Primary Functions:
Support the Health Services department by providing both clinical and clerical support as directed. Build relationships with students, meeting their medical needs while maximizing their success in the classroom.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Primary Functions: Support the Health Services department by providing both clinical and clerical support as directed. Build relationships with students, meeting their medical needs while maximizing their success in the classroom. Will also be trained in administering some medications according to district policy and procedure and will be required to provide First Aid/ CPR as needed
- Interact with students, parents and employees in a caring, respectful and professional manner
- Effectively communicate with children and adults
- Maintain confidential files and records
- Maintain clean and orderly health rooms
- Monitor the cleanliness of health rooms and report deficits
- Inventory and stock health room and supplies
- Copy and prepare mailings
- Prepare health related materials as needed for education and trainings
- Assist Health Services staff in complying with department standards
- Maintain cumulative health records on all students by using appropriate forms and electronic records, immunization requirements and current medication administration logs
- Call parents to follow up on immunizations and other health related concerns
- Participate with in-service health education meetings and trainings
- Administer First Aid and CPR as needed
- Utilize appropriate protective apparel and devices when performing job functions involving possible blood/ body fluid exposures
- Gather medications for field trips under direction of the RN
- Administer some medications according to district policy and training
- Assist with vision and hearing screenings under direction of the RN
- Data entry
- Flexibility to work at all schools
- Accept direction from RN
- Other duties as assigned
