TRANSPORTATION BUS ASSISTANT Reports to: Transportation Manager
Bargaining Group: Clarkston Classified Association (CCA) FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: 3.5 hours per day, Mon-Fri
Primary Functions:
Provide safe, efficient, and secure transportation for Clarkston School District students in a positive, customer-friendly environment.
Grade Level: Pre-12 Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum computer/technology skills
Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills
Ability to handle stress/anger/conflict situations
Enjoys working with students
Sound decision making skills
Responsible and punctual
Good personal health
Responsibilities:
Follow district, local, state and federal statues relevant to a public school environment:
School District Policy and Procedures
School Bus emergency procedures
Complete appropriate reports/documentation as applicable
Maintain an appropriate and legal leel of confidentiality of information regarding students, staff and other individuals having business with and access to the school district:
Exhibit ethical behavior at all times
Follow confidentiality procedures
Maintain a safe, clean and organized environment for students and staff:
Review safety criteria
Keep floors dry and clear of objects for safety
Keep chair lift clear of foreign objects
Maintain appropriate student behavior while on the bus
Enforce the use of seatbelts
Report the health issues of each student
Assist with personal hygiene
Maintain communication: Use cell phone to call parents or the school
Monitor Students while on the bus:
Assist with arrival and departure of students
Review daily schedule and make adjustments
Operate lift for wheelchairs
Escort students to designated seats
Help students secure seatbelts
Secure tie-downs for wheelchairs
Assist students from bus to school/home:
Check bus for student materials
Escort students to classroom or wait for classroom assistant
Communicate with classroom assistant or teacher/parents
Ensure that students safely enter and exit bus
Implement assigned emergency plan:
Maintain control and safety of students on the bus in the event of an emergency
Assist with bus evacuation drills
Continue job performance enhancement through professional development:
Participate in appropriate in-service programs/educational opportunities
Read and study new and updated job related resources
Perform duties with a high degree of courtesy and respect
Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator/supervisor
Job Conditions
Persons holding this position:
Must pass a criminal background check that meets required state, federal, and Clarkston School District standards.
