Job Title:                          Reports To: TRANSPORTATION MANAGER

Bus Driver

 

Bargaining Group:  IUOE       FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

 

Terms of Employment:  4 hours per / 191 days per year (prorated for 2017-18 school year)


Qualifications:
• Demonstrated aptitude for the tasks involved.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Satisfactory completion of Bus Driver training course.
• Must have no points on driving record and be able to pass physical including drug test.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must hold a Commercial Driver’s License. Must pass State Skill Test and State Written Test.


Language Skills: Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between a series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walkor stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job.  The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee is continuously driving on the job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds such as students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.


Work Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees, and occasionally will walk on slippery
surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to
raise your voice to be heard.


Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to pass State Skill Test, State Written Test, Department of transportation physical and MDE Basic Training Program. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.



Performance Summary: Operates a school bus in a legal and safe manner, transporting students to and from school and activities away from the school, as directed by the following duties:


Performance Responsibilities:
1. Drives the bus on assigned routes in a legal and safe manner.
2. Instructions students and teachers in emergency bus evacuation procedures and conducts drills twice a year.
3. Instructs students in proper bus conduct.
4. Reports misconduct on bus through established district procedures.
5. Operates two-way radio as needed.
6. Conducts pre-trip and post-trip bus inspection to insure that all parts are operating and the bus is safe.
7. Fuels the bus as needed.
8. Cleans the interior of the bus daily.
9. Cleans the exterior of bus as needed.
10. Completes daily log forms and other required paperwork accurately and promptly.
11. Other duties may be assigned.

Terms of Employment:
• Hours as required by route.
• Pay and benefits in accordance with contract between Clarkston School District and the International Union of Operating    Engineers. (Currently $17.87-$19.30 p/hr)
• Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
