Bargaining Group: IUOE        FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Terms of Employment:  260 days/8 hours per day


  • Journeyman carpenter qualifications required
  • Professional carpentry/roofing experience required
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Driver’s license required
  • Professional locksmith experience preferred
  • Locksmith certification preferred



  • Schooling in:
    • Construction management
    • Construction engineering
    • Building management & inspection





Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance performs skilled requirements related to the installation, maintenance and repair of all District locking mechanisms, including doors, jambs, closures, lock security mechanisms, electrical security devices for doors, windows, gates, cabinetry or any other secured space and all associated hardware.  Additionally, performs skilled carpentry work, roofing maintenance ensuring district roofs are structurally sound, and meet specifications in accordance with city/state/federal codes and regulations.


Support District safety by responding to emergency situations due to alarms or emergency roofing or general maintenance work.



  • Installs, maintains and repairs door closures, locking mechanisms, door cylinders, stall doors, repairs or replaces broken doors, straightens damaged door jambs, replaces or repairs panic hardware hinges, desks, cabinet locks and all associated hardware with all District locking mechanisms.
  • Performs locksmith duties; install and remove locks, panic hardware, door closure and other door hardware; disassemble, reassemble adjust and replace door locks, cabinet locks, padlocks and panic hardware; install, disassemble, reassemble, adjust and repair door closure; lubricate, weld and pick locks as needed.
  • Implements and maintains District master keying system
  • Maintenance of key assignment logs, and maintains District records
  • Identifies, orders and maintains adequate supply parts at all times
  • Prepares and maintains detailed records of work performed, pin and rekeying charts, keys, doors and hardware.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on locks and hardware including cleaning, lubricating and tightening parts.
  • Standard practice in the locksmith trade; including materials, tools and procedures used in connection with locking mechanisms and fixtures
  • Materials, tools, and equipment common to commercial/industrial locksmith installation, maintenance and repair
  • Computerized access control systems
  • Applicable codes and regulations
  • Building code requirements pertaining to locksmith work
  • Performs carpentry repairs and construction of various building and instructional systems including: remodels, renovations, and new structures
  • Performs finish carpentry work
  • Installs and repairs floor tile, ceiling tile, glass, playground equipment, athletic equipment and new windows
  • Participate in preventive maintenance and repair procedures for roofs
  • Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating conditions
  • Attends/Participates in Department Meetings, District In-services, Trainings, Workshops and /or Seminars as required
  • Completes work order documentation in a timely manner
  • Purchases and/or requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair
  • Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies to ensure the availability of materials required at assigned job site.
  • Performs Maintenance duties as assigned. Assists other personnel as required.
