RESPONSIBILITIES:
FOLLOW DISTRICT, LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL STATUTES RELEVANT TO A PUBLIC SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
- School District policy and procedures
- Building emergency procedures
- Complete appropriate reports/documentation as applicable
MAINTAIN AN APPROPRIATE AND LEGAL LEVEL OF CONFIDENTIALITY OF INFORMATION REGARDING STUDENTS, STAFF AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS HAVING BUSINESS WITH AND ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL
- Exhibit ethical behavior at all times
- Follow confidentiality procedures, and
MAINTAIN A SAFE, CLEAN, AND ORGANIZED WORK ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF
- Clean and change arrangement of tables and chairs as needed
- Arrange small group activity centers
- Maintain classroom materials
PREPARATION OF STUDENT MATERIALS FOR INSTRUCTION
- Prepare classroom equipment and supplies (i.e. cut, laminate, and copy)
- Assist with the construction of student generated bulletin boards
- Research materials for new activities
- Operate computer programs
- Create instructional materials
- Choose new books
- Plan and revise lessons
ASSIST WITH TRANSITIONS WITHIN THE SCHOOL DAY
- Escort students to and from the classroom
MAINTAIN POSITIVE COMMUNICATION AMONG STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND SCHOOL STAFF
- Identify students’ interests
- Collaborate with teachers
- Monitor homework and parent communication
- Prepare folders
- Process permission letters
- Assist substitute teacher
- Prepare for substitute assistants
PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE TEACHER
- Implement one-on-one/small group instruction
- Monitor/administer/score student assessments
- Assist students with identified skills
- Identify students for pre-referral/placement
- Assist teacher in large group activities
- Work with students on computers
- Model Silent Sustained Reading (SSR)
- Track and advise students on incomplete assignments
- Assist students in choosing appropriate ability level books
- Adapt materials to make skill/age appropriate
MONITOR AND PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION OF STUDENT PERFORMANCE
- Correct papers and input grades
- File
- Enter and retrieve data
- Assist with program enrollment records
MONITOR AND PROVIDE POSITIVE DISCIPLINE AS NECESSARY
- Follow school wide discipline plan
- Document student behavior as appropriate
- Assist school staff with the overall management of the building
- Be consistent fair and positive in all interactions
PROVIDE STUDENT SUPERVISION IN NON-ACADEMIC AREAS
- Monitor students (lunchroom/playground/bus line/assemblies/other)
- Chaperone fieldtrips
ASSIST IN THE INSTRUCTION OF PERSONAL NEEDS
- Educate students about personal hygiene
- Make referrals as appropriate (Nurse/counselor/office/outside agencies)
CONTINUE JOB PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT THROUGH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Participate in appropriate in-service programs/educational opportunities
- Read and study new or updated job related resources.
PERFORM DUTIES WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF COURTESY AND RESPECT
PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE ADMINISTRATOR/SUPERVISOR
Job Conditions
Persons holding this position:
- Must pass a criminal background check that meets required state, federal, and Clarkston School District standards.
- Will have occasional evening hours during school functions as assigned
